Komar University and Vision Foundation Host Symposium on “The Hidden Risks of Social Media on Families and Adolescents”
On Monday, September 18, 2025, Komar University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with Vision Foundation, hosted a symposium under the theme “The Hidden Risks of Social Media on Families and Adolescents”.
The symposium shed light on the growing issue of social media misuse, particularly among teenagers and young adults, and its consequences for families, society, and both mental and physical health. The objective was to raise awareness and promote strategies to reduce the risks of social media on adolescents’ lives and futures.
The event began with a welcoming speech from Mr. Adnan Othman, President of Vision Foundation, followed by a keynote presentation by Mr. Hemn Abdulqadir, Social Researcher, who shared findings from a study conducted on behalf of the foundation.
A panel discussion then brought together leading experts to provide diverse perspectives on the topic. Panelists included, Asst. Prof. Dr. Luqman Siwaily, Social Work Expert, Asst. Prof. Dr. Pave Jamil, Media Psychology Expert, Dr. Shahla Ali, Psychologist and Mr. Hemn Abdulqadir, Social Researcher.
The panel was followed by an engaging Q&A session, allowing the audience to interact directly with the experts.
The symposium concluded with an Appreciation Ceremony, where certificates of appreciation were presented to the panelists and contributors, followed by a networking coffee break.
