Responsibilities of KUST Employees

Employees

All employees, students and individuals working for the University have a duty to:

· Take reasonable care for the health and safety at work for themselves and any other people who might be affected by their acts or omissions.

· Observe safety rules at all times and co-operate with the University in matters of health and safety.

· Not intentionally or recklessly misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare.

· Report all accidents and dangerous occurrences whether persons are injured or not.

· Always use equipment provided in the interests of safety in case of need.

· Follow health and safety instructions and report anything considered a serious danger.

· Report any shortcomings in the protection arrangements for health and safety to the health and safety Directories.

Resolution of Health and Safety Issues

Employees

Safety of Visitors:

Visitors must be given appropriate information and instruction regarding relevant risks to their health and safety. This should include information about emergency procedures.

Adequate supervision of visitors whilst on the premises is necessary to ensure they do not endanger themselves or other personnel.

Access to laboratory areas, workshops and similar areas should be restricted and only allowed under supervision.

The University does not encourage the presence of children on site. At the same time it is recognised that emergency arrangements may occasionally be necessary for working parents. On these occasions, it is the responsibility of the parent to make the Head of Unit aware of the child’s presence and to discuss health and safety aspects with the Head of Unit at the time.

GENERAL SAFETY RULES

1. Report all work injuries and illnesses immediately.

2. Report all Unsafe Acts or Unsafe Conditions to Health and Safety Unit.

3. Use seat belts when in KUST vehicles.

4. Firearms, weapons, or explosives are not permitted in KUST Campus.

5. Use, possession, sale or being under the influence of illegal drugs, misuse of prescription drugs and/or alcohol is not permitted in KUST campus.

6. Only authorized and trained Employees may repair or adjust machinery and equipment.

7. Only qualified and trained Employees may work on or near Exposed Energized Electrical Parts or Electrical Equipment. Follow Electrical Safety Rules when working with electrically powered machines and equipment.

8. Keep work areas clean and aisles clear. Do not block emergency equipment or exits.

9. Wear and use the prescribed Personal Protective Safety Equipment. This includes foot protection, head protection, gloves, etc. (based on the task requirement)

10. Smoking is permitted only in the designated “Smoking Areas”.

11. Never take risks when it comes to safety

12. Obey safety signs, stickers, and tags.

13. Do not perform a task unless you’ve been trained and you are aware of the hazards as well as how to eliminate them.

14. Never leave machinery running unattended.

15. Never walk in front of a forklift, tractor, or any other heavy machine; the operator may not have seen you—and, even if he has, there’s always room for error, so make sure that error isn’t you being trampled.

16. In case of emergency follow the exit signs.

17. Know and plan the nearest emergency exits near you and know the locations of the assembly point.

Rules for Animals

Dogs and/or other animals are not allowed in KUST campus.
