Komar University Hosts 5th International Conference on Geotechnical Engineering
On July 2–3, 2025, Komar University of Science and Technology hosted the 5th International Conference on Geotechnical Engineering (5th IGCE). The event was organized in collaboration with the Iraqi Geotechnical Engineering Society (IGES)—one of the most active societies in Iraq and the Middle East—and Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University, ranked among the top three international universities in Russia.
Led by Dr. Ako Rashed Hama, Assistant Professor and Head of the Organizing Committee, the conference aimed to bring together academic and professional experts in geotechnical engineering, fostering collaboration and creating future opportunities for joint research and development.
Out of 399 submissions from 18 countries—including Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Germany, the USA, UK, Portugal, Albania, China, India, Malaysia, Sweden, Russia, Egypt, and Spain—a total of 354 scientific papers were accepted. The program featured over six international keynote speakers and more than 15 technical sessions and research presentations.
All accepted papers will be published in Scopus-indexed journals, including Scientific.net, IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, and Springer.
The conference was recognized as one of the most successful academic events held in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq during the 2024–2025 academic year. A list of final recommendations was shared with participants and will be submitted to relevant authorities for potential implementation.
