Komar University President Participates with Iraqi Parliament on Drafting New Private Education Law
On March 7, 2024, in a significant workshop organized by the Parliamentary Higher Education Committee, held at the AlShibibi Hall in the Iraqi Parliament building, Professor Dr. Salahalddin Saeed Ali, President of Komar University of Science and Technology, joined key stakeholders to discuss the draft of the new Private Education Law. The meeting brought together officials from the Federal Government’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, their counterparts from the Kurdistan Region, and presidents of private universities. A focal point of the discussions was Article 47, crucial for the dual recognition of academic degrees between the federal and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). The workshop aimed to collect a wide array of proposals and observations to ensure the legislation meets educational aspirations and addresses the challenges faced by private educational institutions in Iraq. The Parliamentary Higher Education Committee committed to carefully considering all input to draft a law that effectively supports the development of private education, signalling a collaborative effort to advance academic excellence and degree recognition across Iraq.
