Komar University and Hiwa Foundation hold joint panel discussion on Environmental Issues
On November 27, 2023, Komar University of Science and Technology, in partnership with Hiwa Foundation held a panel discussion titled “The Challenges of our Era: A Panel on Environmental Issues”. This event was attended by the Governor of Sulaimani, Dr. Haval Abubakir, environmental activists, government representatives, faculty members, and students. The aim of this event was twofold, four panelists discussed the issues related to the environment and the trailer of “The Challenges of Our Era” project, prepared by Hiwa Foundation was shown to the attendees.
The event started with a speech by professor Dr. Salahalddin Saeed Ali, president of Komar University of Science and Technology, in which he emphasized the importance of increased efforts to spread environmental awareness to tackle the issues of the environment. Following his speech, Dr. Haval Abubakir, the Governor of Sulaimani, also gave a speech where he warned against some big environmental hazards that we are facing and also declared some of the accomplishments of the city with regard to environmental protection policies and activities. Ms. Chra Akram, Project manager at Hiwa Foundation also gave a speech in which she mentioned the importance and aim of this joint project which is to spread awareness among the people of Kurdistan and the government regarding the problems that the Kurdistan Environment faces.
Following the opening of the event, the trailer of the project, The Challenges of Our Era, was shown to the audience which is scheduled to air later through TV channels and social media platforms.
The event continued with a panel discussion on the issues facing the environment. The panel was moderated by Ms. Hazhan Khalid, a faculty of Kurdistan Technical Institute, and three panelists participated including Dr. Twana Abdulrazaq, a faculty member at Komar University of Science and Technology, Dr. Rezhin Harun, a faculty member at Sulaimani University, and Mr. Nabeel Musa, in charge of the Water Protection of Iraq and Kurdistan Organization.
The event concluded with a fruitful discussion between the panelists and the audience, where the participants of the event were discussing issues and suggesting solutions to them.
