Komar University Honors Sulaimani’s Heritage through Music, Dialogue, and Art
On November 14, 2024, Komar University of Science and Technology celebrated Sulaimani’s foundation anniversary with an event that brought together students, faculty, and staff for a day filled with music, engaging discussions, and poetry.
The program opened with a speech from Dr. Kawis Aziz Faraj, Vice President for Student and Academic Affairs, who shared insights into Sulaimani’s historical milestones and the influential figures that have enriched the city’s identity over the years.
Adding another dimension to the discussion, Ms. Asos, head of the non-governmental Fine Arts Institute, delivered a speech on the role of women in Sulaimani’s art scene. She emphasized how women have contributed significantly to the city’s artistic development, promoting creativity and resilience within the community.
Following Ms. Asos’ address, Dr. Hemn Karim, a distinguished faculty member, offered an in-depth look at Sulaimani’s cultural evolution, particularly highlighting the role of art and poetry in shaping the city’s unique character. His talk shed light on how these forms of expression have preserved and celebrated Sulaimani’s roots across generations.
To conclude the celebration, talented students from Komar University took to the stage, performing traditional Kurdish folk songs that resonated with the spirit of Sulaimani’s cultural legacy. Their performances created a lively atmosphere, fostering a strong sense of connection to the city’s past while celebrating its ongoing story.
