Japan: Presentation about Higher Education in Kurdistan
Dr. Salah Aziz was invited by the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) to talk about the impact of wars on higher education in Iraq.
Dr. Salah’s presentation, “Higher Education in Kurdistan after the 1991 and 2003 Wars” highlighted the different impacts of wars on the higher education depending on the nature of the wars whether they are occupation, civil wars, or a liberation war. He emphasised that Kurdistan was liberated after the 1991 and 2003 wars; therefore, higher education in general improved significantly in term of increasing high education institutions and building capacity after the wars. He stated that Kurdistan is working toward independent and strong higher education system.
IAUP held its XVII Triennial Conference in Yokohama, Japan from June 11 to 14, 2014. The Association members are presidents, reactors and chancellors of universities worldwide.
