Komar University Student Featured in a National Award Ceremony, 5 KUST Students Awarded
On Monday, 9th of November, the taskforce on national Internship program in Kurdistan held its second
annual ceremony for students from participating universities in Kurdistan who successfully finished their
2015 internship program. The ceremony of 2015 was held in Erbil in Saad Abdullah Convention Center.
More than 125 students from 8 universities participated in this award ceremony. Komar University of
Science and Technology participated with a delegation headed by Dr. Salah Aziz, KUST President,
accompanied by Dr. Ala Talabani Acting VP of Student Affairs, Ms. Awat Aziz, Director of Komar Institute,
Dr. Alan Noory, KUST Internship Program Coordinator, and the following students who participated in
the national internship program:

The program started with a speech by Mr. Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region’s
Government, whose office initiated this program to be a model for a partnership between higher
education institutions and the private sector. Dr. Yousif Goran, the Minister of Higher Education and
Scientific Research followed with the ministry’s speech. Three students were selected to present their
experience with the national internship program. The shining star of the student presenters was KUST’s
own Mr. Mukhtar Raouf who captured the audience with his outstanding experience with internship in
Asiacell where he was granted an annual contract to maintain their entire Sulaimani network of fiber
optic cables. This Mr. Mukhtar said had led to employing 7 of his fellow students in his company.
Participating businesses, students and program coordinators in all universities were awarded certificates
for their role in making the 2015 national internship program a success.
