Komar University of Science and Technology Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Event
On October 29, 2024 Komar University of Science and Technology held a significant breast cancer awareness event, featuring esteemed medical professionals and an inspiring cancer patient’s story. The event, attended by the university president Dr. Salahalddin Saeed Ali, vice president for academic and student affairs Dr. Kawis Aziz Faraj, Dr. Anwar Shekha, along with faculty members and students, focused on educating attendees on breast cancer risk factors, prevention, and the importance of early detection.
The speakers included Dr. Hazha Abdullah, a Medical Oncologist from Anwar Shexa Medical City, and Dr. Nareen Nawzad, a Medical Radiologist from the same institution. Both experts shared insights on breast cancer incidence among women and men, outlining key contributing factors and prevention strategies. They emphasized the critical role of mammography in early-stage detection, which can significantly increase the chances of successful treatment. In addition, they both covered lifestyle changes that one can make to prevent the disease, including healthy diets and exercise.
Adding a personal dimension to the event, Ms. Sozyar Omer, an English instructor at the Center of Intensive English Programs and a cancer patient, shared her journey through diagnosis and treatment. She underscored the importance of regular health checkups and urged attendees to adhere closely to medical guidelines during therapy.
This impactful session underlined Komar University’s commitment to health awareness and community education, fostering an environment of knowledge and support for the well-being of its members and beyond.
