Komar University’s psychological Counselling Conducts Symposium on Substance Abuse and Future of Humanity
After the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s meeting with the universities on February 26 to discuss a roadmap to combat drug and psychotropic substance abuse, Komar University’s Psychological Counselling Unit organised a symposium titled “Substance Abuse and the Future of Humanity. The aim of this symposium was to spread awareness of the dangers of substance abuse among university students.
The symposium started with a seminar by Dr Saman Anwar, president of the Life Mental Health Centre, on the different types of substances and their effects on users. Following this seminar, Ms. Frmesk Jaf, a Clinical Psychologist, gave a presentation on the different types of psychotherapeutic treatment.
Following the seminar, a panel discussion was conducted, moderated by Dr. Shahla Ali from the Psychological Counselling Unit at Komar University of Science and Technology. The discussions centred around the legal, psychological and health implications of drug abuse. In the panel, in addition to psychological and health implications, Ms. Zhyan Jelal, an expert in general law, shed light on the legal implications of issues related to drug abuse.
The symposium concluded with warm discussions between the panelists and the participants paving the way for future discussions on similar issues that society suffers from.
