KUST holds seminar on Gender-Based Violence
On December 6, 2022, as part of the 16 Days of Activism set by the United Nations, Komar University of Science and Technology held two seminars on Gender-Based Violence related topics. The aim of the seminars was to raise awareness among students and the wider community. The seminars were presented by Mr. Dyari Hama amin, B.Sc. in Clinical Psychology, and Ms. Sawen, M.Sc. in Clinical Psychology from SEED foundation. In his seminar, Mr. Dyari, talked about the psychology of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in which he presented data on the issue in the Kurdistan region and the middle east in general. He also talked about the negative psychological consequences of GBV and associated risk factors. Following his seminar, Ms. Sawen presented a seminar on Suicide/Self-harm due to violence: recognizing signs and prevention. In her seminar, she talked about the relation between suicidality and violence. During both seminars, there was passionate engagement from the audience raising questions and comments with respect to the issue.
