A Seminar On “Ultraviolet–Visible (UV-Vis) Spectroscopy and Its Applications”
On December 11th, 2017, Office of Quality Assurance and Accreditation at KUST- Komar University of Science and Technology held a seminar for Dr. Dara Muhammed Jamil, BOT Chairman, in which the faculty members, staff members and students were attended. This seminar was about “Ultraviolet–Visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy and its applications”.
At the beginning of the seminar, Dr. Dara focused on the importance of instrumental analysis that has imposed an indispensable impact on various aspects of our life. Of particular importance is the advancements produced in health-related issues, ranging from all medicinal disciplines, food and agriculture, drugs, pharmaceuticals etc. Additionally, he emphasized on the essential points of UV – Vis. Spectroscopy as one of the most prominent techniques that are used in a wide range of applications. This technique uses the interactions
between electromagnetic radiation properties and the atoms/molecules of the sample in question for answering two basic questions: What is this?
(Qualitative) and how much is this (Quantitative)?
In this seminar, the focus was on the followings:
1. Properties of electromagnetic radiations
2. Employment of these radiations in various analytical instruments.
3. How UV-Vis. Spectrophotometers work.
4. Applications of UV-Vis spectrophotometers.
5. Conclusion.
This seminar was a part of series activities that will be conducted according to the Quality Assurance Calendar during Fall 2017.
