Komar University Faculty Member Dr. Ako Rashed Hama Nominated by Iraqi Government for National Seismic Preparedness Role
In a significant development, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ako Rashed Hama, Chairperson of Civil Engineering Department at Komar University of Science and Technology, has been nominated by the Iraqi Federal Government’s Presidency of Council Ministers – Advisory Commission in Baghdad. Dr. Hama’s nomination comes as a recognition of his expertise and academic contributions. He has been selected as one of only 15 consultant members nationwide to aid in preparing a comprehensive national Iraqi rescue and emergency plan to address seismic activities and earthquakes across the country.
Dr. Hama’s role extends to the development and updating of Iraqi standard codes for building and construction, particularly focusing on governmental and private residential buildings. His appointment signifies not only his individual achievement but also highlights Komar University’s prominence in the field. It’s noteworthy that Dr. Hama represents both the university and Sulaimania City in this crucial endeavor.
This recognition follows Dr. Hama’s active participation in a two-day national earthquake symposium titled “Seismic Design Provisions According to Iraqi Seismic Code-ISC2017,” hosted by Komar University of Science and Technology on May 10 and 11, 2023. His dedication to advancing seismic safety measures underscores his commitment to serving the community and ensuring the resilience of Iraq’s infrastructure in the face of seismic risks.
