KUST faculty invited by U.S. National Academies of Sciences
Assistant Professor Dr. Ako Rashed Hama, the chairperson of Civil Engineering department was invited by The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine as a subject matter expert to participate in the another phase in the U.S.-Iraqi Research- Focused Dialogues. The aim of the dialogues is to bring US and Iraqi scientists and engineers to discuss current research and exchange information on rivers, biodiversity, and restoration of river habitats and Mesopotamian River Revival. The meeting was held in Amman, Jordan on January 15-18, 2023, which focused on the development of a multi-year research agenda that will serve as a foundational document to guide the U.S. State Department and other parts of the U.S. government, and potentially the government of Iraq and international partners as they seek to strengthen engagement with Iraqi research institutions and universities over the coming years. This agenda will strategically focus on science and technology to revitalize Iraqi rivers and their habitats, which is a priority within Iraq and within the region more broadly.
