Komar University of Science and Technology hosts First National Earthquake Symposium

On May 10, 11, 2023 Komar University of Science and Technology hosted a two-day national earthquake symposium under the title “Seismic Design Provisions According to Iraqi Seismic Code-ISC2017”. The symposium was attended by the governor of Sulaimany Dr. Haval Abubakr, the representative of the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Mohammed, Dr.Wisham Hadi Sudani and two other consultant engineers as the representative of the consultant bureau of prime minister of Iraqi government Mr. Muhamed Shaia AlSudani, academics from different parts of Iraq and government representatives. During the symposium, different issues were discussed related to earthquakes and building structures in the country. After each session, discussion panels were held to address current issues and future implications between the presenters and the attendees of the symposium. This symposium was a collaboration between Komar University of Science and Technology, Mustansirya University, The Islamic University, Ashur university college and Kurdistan’s Engineers Union. The symposium ended with a list of recommendations to tackle the issues in the future in the field of civil engineering.
