The English Department of KUST organizes a national symposium on Audiovisual Translation
As part of their academic activities, Komar university’s department of English Language and Literature organized a national symposium titled “Audiovisual Translation: Challenges and Opportunities” on November 2, 2022. The symposium was run by the students of the English department in which three guest speakers were invited. The speakers were Mr. Harem Abdullah Majeed, a lecturer at slemani university, Ms. Sawsan Omer Nuri from Kurdsat Broadcasting Corporation, and Mr. Hamid Banaiy, a practitioner in the field of audiovisual translation. The symposium was attended by students and faculty from the English department, along with Komar university’s president, Professor Dr. Salahalddin Saeed Ali, and vice president for academic and student affairs, Professor Dr. Kawis Aziz Faraj. The aim of the symposium was to merge different perspectives in the field, including academics and practitioners in the field. During the symposium, the speakers elaborated on the history of dubbing and subtitling, the challenges and opportunities for those who work in this area. After the speakers presented their ideas, students and faculty had a small session where they had questions and comments about what the speakers discussed in their talks. At the end, Professor Kawis Aziz Faraj, vice president for academic and student affairs, presented the panelists with certificates from Komar University of Science and Technology.
