KUST holds an International Conference

On October 2, 3, 4th, 2022 Komar University of Science and Technology held a three-day international conference under the title “Water Resources in Iraq: Perspective and Prognosis “. The conferences’ themes were around issues and challenges that Iraq and the Kurdistan Region are facing in terms of water resources, dams, and environmental issues. The conference was attended by the minister of Water Resources of Iraq, Mr. Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani, minister of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Kurdistan Region’s Government, Ms. Begard Talabani, and the governor of Slemani, Dr. Haval Abubakr. University presidents, academics and government representatives were also present.

The participants of the conference were both local and international researchers. More than 60 research papers were presented in the conference which were divided into 5 different sessions, and the papers were presented in two days. The third day of the conference was a scientific trip organized for the participants to Dukan Dam in order for them to see the dam up close. The conference was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of water resources, Iraq, Ministry of Agriculture and water resources, KRG, United Nations, Lulea University of Technology, Al-Rafidain NGO, and APSU for sustainable water.
