Komar University holds a Panel in Women’s International Day
At the evening of March 8th, 2016, for praising the role of women in the world and in our community especially, Komar University of Science and Technology held a panel titled “Women and Careers” for three women activist, Talar Latif, Member of Kurdistan Parliament, Bekhal Abubakr, Lecturer at Sulaimayah Univeristy, and Paiman Ezzadin, lawyer and former member of KRG Parliament.
The panel was opened with the speech of the President of Komar University, Dr. Salah Aziz. In advance he congratulated all guests for the Women’s International Day. He reminded all the guests that with all the speech on the Women’s right and issue, we have to show support for them. Opportunities should be available for them to be leaders and decision-makers in their communities, The President added.
After that, the panel discussion started, and the three panelists pointed out many important and impressive points.
Ms. Paiman frankly pointed out that “it is not easy for women to create a balance between their work at home and their careers outside, but they have to face the difficulties if they have goal in their life”
Ms. Bekhal Abubakr addressed the importance of one of the Women’s basic career which is motherhood and states “we all know that our Language that we learned called mother language, which means that from the very beginning of our life, we are all students of women.
Ms. Talar Latif another panelist, to give a shadow for the possibilities of having women in the decision making positions, she states “our system is not so much supportive, according to our election rule, 25 percent specified for women, and we have many women in the parliament due to that rule, but because of the absence of that rule in the council of the ministries, there is no women in the council”
It is worth mentioning that, What made the panel unique is the initiative from the president of Komar University who announced the criteria’s for his annual reward for two successful women all around Kurdistan Region of Iraq, one in academia and another one in any other sector’s admin position. He announced that the reward will be one million IQ for each one of them and after making a short list from all the nominations, the winners of the rewards will be announced annually in a panel. The audience and the panelists praised this unique initiative for supporting women in our community.
In this event many governmental, political, social and representatives from different universities, organization attended this events, along with them, students and other people were the guests of the events.
Lastly the panel ended with the questions and the opinions of the guests and audience. They enriched the event with their great and productive input in women’s International day and especially on the topic of the panel “Women and Careers”
