Field Trip of KUST Students to Lafarge Company
During the last two weeks of the Fall semester 2015, the Environmental Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, in KUST, organized a team of (19) students with their responsible instructor Mr. Ahmed Abulsalam for an informative and useful field trip to Lafarge Company in Suliemania, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Lafarge Company is one of the largest cement production companies in the world, and it has built a large plant in the Governorate of Suleimania for national markets in Iraq.
The purpose of this trip was learning how to apply relevant theories in the field of Environmental Engineering, which have been taught in the courses: 1. Health, Safety and Environment. 2. Air pollution and control.
In the beginning of the visit, an engineer from the Production Department of Lafarge gave a presentation to KUST students team, explaining the Company’s objectives and the specifications of their products.
Later on, KUST students visited Safety Department where they saw the control techniques used to protect workers’ life from the risks. The Department demonstrated the safety equipements and measures used in the plant.
As one of our team’s goals, they were able to visit the Environment Department, in which our students attended a short presentation about the policies and activities of this Department in the plant. After the presentation, one of the same Department engineers demonstrated the way of using the relevant equipment for controlling the emissions.
