A Seminar on Oscar Wilde’s Novel
On June 16th, 2016, Ms. Kizhan Salar, a faculty member of English Department delivered a seminar titled “Narcissism in Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray”.
In her seminar, Ms. Kizhan lightened many corners of the Wilde’s Novel. She explained how the author show a special type of personality through Dorian who experience abusive, miserable and lonely childhood, which misleads him to fail the ” oedipal complex” and become narcissistic along with the “other” influential language about his beauty. He loves his false self and gets totally disconnected with his inner voice.
The Presenter, probed the protagonist’s miserable and lonely childhood as the major cause of the emergence of narcissism in his adulthood, a tendency which in turn resulted in his suicide.
The presentation ended with questions from the audience and lastly she was awarded with a certificate of appreciation for her great work.
