Celebrating International Mother Language Day at Komar University of Science and Technology
On Wednesday, February 21, 2024 Komar University of Science and Technology celebrated International Mother Language Day, a global event dedicated to promoting linguistic and cultural diversity.
In line with our tradition of embracing diverse linguistic backgrounds, the event underscored the significance of preserving and protecting the languages spoken by people worldwide. The Kurdish language, known for its rich cultural heritage, was at the forefront of the celebration with music performances by a group of Komar University students.
Adding to the day’s significance, the event kicked off with an opening statement by Professor Dr. Kawis Aziz Faraj, Vice President for Academic and Student affairs. Also, a series of seminars led by esteemed speakers was given. Among them are Professor Dr. Avesta Kamal from University of Sulaimani, College of Language and Literature, specializing in Kurdish Studies, and Mr. Harem Othman, a distinguished lecturer at Komar University.
Highlighting the event, Hazhan Qadir, a remarkable student and translator in the field of medicine, gave a talk on his experience as a medical translator and conducted a book signing session. Hazhan has made significant contributions by translating two books over the past two years, showcasing the importance of linguistic skills in facilitating knowledge exchange.
