On Monday 18th February 2019, the Director of CIEP and English Instructor, Ms. Zareena Younis together with Soran Muhamad, an MLS Student and organiser of Nawa group, were invited to present a seminar on ‘How to learn English” at The Bakrajo Technical Institute SPU. The seminar was presented in English and then interpreted in Kurdish.
There are many ways and thousands of sites on how to learn English, but this seminar focused on the importance of firstly identifying the purpose of learning, secondly breaking any cultural barriers and making use of the available clubs, groups, seminars in Sulimani and finally using the resources online and locally to learn with a passion and to be self-motivated. The idea was to share the benefit of the way the students are encouraged at Komar University.
Mr. Rebin Qadir, assistant of the Head of the Horticulture and Landscape design department and Mr. Arsalan Marif assistant lecturer from the same department at The Bakrajo Technical Institute SPU also shared their invaluable advice, that ultimately students have to be ready for change, due to the fact that in this region, most of the higher education establishments curriculum, subjects and materials are in English. In order to overcome this, students have to put a lot of effort in to reach their goal.
Both, CIEP and The Bakrajo Technical Institute SPU have agreed to mutually work together on future seminars and workshops to encourage a greater perspective.
